SOCIOLOGY

OUR VISION

Sociology is the study of societies and people’s experiences in society. Sociologists are also interested in how societies have evolved and why. Sociology goes beyond ‘common sense’ and has well-established theories concerning different aspects of society. Some of the areas of society that many sociologists are interested in are crime, identity, and social inequality in the form of gender, social class, ethnicity and many other areas. It is an established GCSE, A Level and Degree subject.

Sociology offers students at Hatch End High School the opportunity to explore the processes that are shaping current trends and to develop an understanding of the complexity and diversity of human societies and their continuities with the past. The study of Sociology should stimulate awareness of contemporary social, cultural and political issues, and focus attention on the importance of examining these issues in a reasoned and analytical way.
