Imperial College Schools Science Competition

12As a result of wining the Seniors Imperial College Science Competition, we (Team Filter) were invited to attend and set up a stall at the Imperial Festival on the 8th and 9th of April to present our idea of air ionisation and filtration to the public. Using the electric field from a 5000-volt power supply and the sprinkling of semolina powder we were able demonstrate how the ionisation of charged air molecules would occur in our system.

Over 300 people in total came to talk to us and find out what our idea was about, and everyone loved the idea. We even had Imperial College staff come and question us about our idea which was quite thrilling, but we remained composed and were able to give excellent answers.

The Imperial Festival was an exciting opportunity for us to network with like-minded people who have a passion for science. We were able to connect with a few members of the faculty at Imperial College, some of them gave us advice on applying to Imperial College, and others who offered us work experience placements.

Overall, the experience was incredible and it wouldn’t have been possible without our team taking a leap in the dark and applying for the Imperial College Schools Science Competition. We also would like to thank Hatch End High School for giving us this opportunity and support.
