Destination: University of Reading

Subject: English Language and Literature

Date of Leaving Hatch End High School: July 2008

I left Hatch End Sixth Form in 2008, and was a member of the first year group of Sixth Formers. For my undergraduate degree I studied English Language and Literature at the University of Reading. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, but originally planned to teach secondary school English. However, during a volunteering placement in a local primary school I decided I wanted to teach primary instead. I graduated from the University of Reading in July 2008 and started a PGCE Primary at the Institute of Education, University of London in September 2008. After the year course I was offered my first teaching job at one of my placement schools in Dollis Hill, and I have been teaching in year 2 for the past two years. Next year I will be moving on to a new school, in Westminster, where I have been offered a year leader position.

The best advice I can offer a student about to start university is make the most of the experience, both academically and socially. Working full time is hard so enjoy being a student while you can!
