I was a student at HEHS from year 8 until year 13. I left in 2016 to go to the University of Sussex to study Product Design. After I had arrived at the university, I decided to change my career path to study engineering. I changed to the Engineering Foundation course to improve my understanding of physics and mechanics. I am now on the Mechanical Engineering degree course and am enjoying my time at the university.

At HEHS I studied Maths, Physics and Product Design as well as Chemistry to AS at Canons High School, as part of the collegiate system.

When I came to the University of Sussex, it was through clearing and I’d like to let future students know that sometimes going through clearing can be the best choice. I am very happy to be at Sussex and I am enjoying my degree and the friends that I have made there.

My advice to current and future students is to work hard and aim for your goals but also not to worry if you don’t reach them immediately. Sometimes you need to take a slightly longer route to get to where you need to be but that does not make your route any less valuable than those who have taken a quicker path. Personally, I believe that taking a longer path can lead to greater success than speeding through. Take the time you need to do what you want to do, not what you are expected to do.
