Year 9 Inspire Scholars

Our Year 9 Inspire Scholars visited St Johns College, Oxford University, on Tuesday 31st January. This trip was an exciting opportunity to help students explore their interests, expand their academic horizons, and gain an insight into University life.

Over the course of the trip, students were first introduced to the University of Oxford, the courses and societies it has to offer and the application process. This included information on financial support available at the University, the practicalities of picking a course and a college, and illustrated practical ways in which pupils can engage with their subjects outside the classroom.

We were then given a tour of the beautiful campus, which was followed by lunch in the College Hall, alongside current St John’s students. Students were also able to meet a current Law student at Oxford, who gave our students an insightful look into university life, revision and her application experience.

Some of the Inspire Scholars favourite part of the trip was visiting the National History Museum in the afternoon. Students enjoyed wandering around the museum and also participated in a curriculum enhancing learning session in which they got to hold some cockroaches! Overall, the trip was a great success, and our students were truly inspired to start thinking about higher education options and reach their academic potential.

Many thanks to St John's College and St John's College Access and Outreach Team for this fantastic opportunity.
