RAD Careers Workshop

Posted on: 27/01/2023

HIP Jan 2023 (1)On Thursday 26th January, the HIP Department was visited by Vicky from the Royal Association for Deaf People (RAD), along with BSL Interpreter Craig.

Vicky delivered a Careers Workshop for deaf young people to seven of our HIP Students. We begun the workshop with a mythbusting activity, addressing some common misconceptions. Deaf people can indeed become nurses, doctors, construction workers, teachers, taxi drivers and many more! We looked at some of the technology and adaptations that can be made so Deaf people can achieve their potential at work.

Our students had the opportunity to discuss different career options and the skills they would need to get there. We also had the chance to ask Vicky about her experience as a deaf adult in the working world and her experiences of travelling and international sign languages!

Thank you to the Royal Association for Deaf People for their ongoing support and well done to all HIP students for taking part!
