Year 7 & 8 Careers Event

Posted on: 03/07/2023

E3 EventLast Friday, three representatives from two different companies, came into Hatch End High School to talk to our Year 7 and 8 students about their own individual career paths, as well as the Careers opportunities available at the organisations they work at, including Apprenticeships.

Anjela Entwisle and Lucie Marshall, from Clarion Housing Group / Clarion Futures, spoke about the various Apprenticeship opportunities available within the company they worked at and how you can have a successful career within a Construction company, outside of working in trade roles.

Ajay Kumar from Citibank spoke about his own career path, as well as the great opportunities available at the organisation he works at, not just in the UK, but around the world.

Our guests made it very clear that it is rare for a career path to move in a straight-forward way.  It is more usual for people to change careers a number of times before they find the path that is right for them.  The most important thing is to be passionate about the work you do, as enjoying your work will make you happier and your career more meaningful.

Although many skills were discussed throughout the presentation, the most important thing all the employers mentioned was to have a good attitude and aptitude - these two will get you the furthest in any career.

This session was a great way to introduce the students to the world of work, as well as to:

- Broaden and raise career aspirations
- Help students to have a better understanding of different routes into careers
- Build confidence
- Create a smooth transition between school & employment/further education

Don't forget: "Students who meet four or more employers before they leave school are FIVE times more employable when they leave education." (Uptree)

Well done to our Year 7 & 8 students for participating so well, and a huge thank you to our guests for attending this event and inspiring our students.
