Black History Month: Celebrating Black and British Stories in School
Posted on: 30/10/2025To mark Black History Month, our students took part in a full-day programme of ‘Black and British’ workshops, delivered by Bigfoot Arts Education. These dynamic, drama-based sessions are designed to reframe British history through the voices too often left out, celebrating the courage, creativity, and contributions of Black Britons past and present.
Led by the engaging and inspiring Stephan Boyce, the workshops used drama techniques such as hot-seating, and tableaux to explore values like perseverance, courage, and curiosity. Students were introduced to a wide range of influential figures, including:
- Marcus Rashford – footballer and food poverty campaigner
- Malorie Blackman – acclaimed author and former Children’s Laureate
- Ade Adepitan – Paralympian and broadcaster
- Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock – space scientist and science communicator
- Sir Trevor McDonald – pioneering news presenter
- Jawahir Roble – Britain’s first female Muslim football referee
- Elsie Owusu – architect and advocate for diversity in design
