Year 8 Visit the London Docklands Museum

Thirty Year 8 students recently enjoyed a fascinating trip to the London Docklands Museum as part of their history studies. The visit gave students the opportunity to learn more about the history of London's docks and their importance to Britain's trade and empire.

Throughout the day, students explored a variety of interactive galleries with a mission to find the answers for their question sheets. They discovered how goods from around the world arrived in London and how the development of the Transatlantic Trade in enslaved people was largely responsible for the development of large cities across England. Sugar and Slavery gallery expertly outlined the horrors of the trade and the efforts of those who fought for its abolition. Whilst the "Sailor town" gallery, recreated the sights and sounds of the Victorian docklands, allowing students to experience what life was like in the nineteenth century.

The behaviour and enthusiasm of Year 8 throughout the day were excellent, and they represented the school brilliantly. Many students commented on how interesting they found the exhibits and how much they enjoyed learning outside the classroom. We would like to thank the museum staff for an engaging and informative visit, it was a memorable day that helped students gain a deeper appreciation of London's rich history.
