Year 10 Business IBM Showcase

IBM2Recently, Year 10 Business students had the chance to take part in an extra-curricular club, focussing on how the IBM SkillsBuild Platform can be used to encourage more women to take up leadership roles in STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths.

Students had 5 weeks to get a podcast ready with the help of a professional mentor. Students met for a remote session every Wednesday after school using headsets to communicate with mentors, who provided support to come up with new ideas for the podcast.

The podcast had to be between 3-5 minutes long and lots of dedication was put into it. This was a great chance to build confidence. During this process, the mentors kept students motivated and driven.

As students approached the final session, they completed a run through of the podcast on Zoom, where there were two ties! These two ties went through to the live finals at the IBM Head Office in London.

As students went on an exciting trip with Mrs Johnson, pupils were privileged to experience IBM innovation, including a dog robot controlled from an iPad, and a virtual room with images and questions on IBM’s initiative to clean up the ocean.

A huge well done to Year 10 students Manvi, Krisha, Rushany and Delia, who won joint first place, alongside one of the other participating schools - a fantastic achievement!
