Year 8 Students Take on Engineering Challenge at UTC Heathrow

To celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, a group of our Year 8 girls took part in an inspiring engineering event at UTC Heathrow on Monday 23rd June. Joined by students from Northwood School, Pinner High School and Hatch End School, they worked together on a creative challenge to design solutions for tackling marine plastic pollution.

Led by UTC’s Assistant Headteacher Michelle Reeves and supported by female engineers from Amazon Web Services, LMG and Scott Logic, the girls collaborated in teams to pitch innovative ideas—ranging from global recycling initiatives to eco- friendly product designs. They were also mentored by UTC’s sixth-form engineering students, who shared valuable insight into STEM careers.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore the world of engineering, develop teamwork skills, and be inspired by successful women in the industry.
